This will become the latest and most progressive venture for Langdon.  Based in Edgware this property will be totally refurbished at a cost of £1.75 million.  Cherie Blair joined Landon’s Dinner Chair, Carrie Rubin with Langdon Chair, Barry Welck to formally unveil this fund raising project.

The Quadrant will provide both additional residential facilities for Langdon Community residents, currently there are 25 residents living within the supported living network in Edgware (plus a further 40 living with Langdon Community in Manchester). Driving this project forward, Barry Welck commented “The Quadrant will come to life as something that will serve the surrounding area and those far beyond already living at Langdon Community.  We know that our own residents currently thrive by having their own community which help them lead a structured and very full life.  Sadly, there are a number of non-residents with learning disabilities who have no social life, therefore have no social connections with young adults their own age – The Quadrant will be the focus point, much needed within this community.”

The Quadrant will take 18 months to refurbish.  It will provide a 24/7 care cover within its own recreational and social area, for both Langdon residents and non-residents to congregate; full training rooms will be in operation to further Langdon’s employment programme along with supplementary adult educational courses.

At the helm of this fundraising drive, Carrie Rubin commented “I personally am blown away with the grassroots work Langdon provides.  At first contact with many of its residents you would hardly recognise their vulnerability, potential loneliness and the exclusion they face.  Langdon is setting down a lifelong legacy in providing this unique facility that won’t discriminate between its own residents and those learning disabled with the wider community.  It will ensure that just because one may have an invisible disability one is neither ignored nor excluded from having a full life just like one’s peers.  To back up my belief in this project, I was thrilled to take on the role of Langdon’s Dinner Chair for their 2010 Annual dinner taking place 22nd April.”
