What We Do

We provide learning and Jewish living opportunities for young people with learning disabilities.

Langdon fulfils a very real need in the community as we are able to support people that might otherwise “slip through the net” - those young people who need more help and support to live and work, young people who would otherwise be living at home, without the support of their peer group and without the sense of purpose that Langdon brings them.

Langdon College

The College is the only specialist residential Further Education College in the UK that caters specifically for the cultural and observational needs of the Jewish community. The College has been supporting young people with learning disabilities to lead independent lives within a Jewish setting for twelve years and over that time has supported over 90 young people with varying degrees of learning disabilities.

It is open 38 weeks a year for 7 days a week. Langdon College gives many of its students their first experience of being treated as an independent adult. When they have completed their three years of study, many students choose not to return to the family and wish to be more independent. Most ex-students naturally progress to the supported living environment of Langdon Community.

Langdon Community

This special community consists of a mixture of supported tenancies and one Residential Care Home. The Community currently provides a wide range of housing options and choices to around 50 young people, between Manchester and North London. Langdon Community supports young Jewish adults with learning difficulties/disabilities to live in the community. Services are committed to promoting participation in employment & voluntary work, recreation & leisure and enabling people to further develop their Independent Living Skills. Services are focused on supporting people to maintain an Orthodox Jewish home life and great emphasis is placed upon providing culturally sensitive support & guidance.

Representatives from social service departments across the country have stated that Langdon's services are “exceptional” and also “provide levels of support that cannot be accessed elsewhere”.
